faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.
Kacey was almost 4 years old when she entered foster care. She was a victim of physical child abuse and suffered several injuries, including a concussion, a brain bleed, a skull fracture, a neck fracture and multiple compression fractures.
She was still wearing diapers and had very obvious developmental delays and trauma. As far as we know, she hadn't really been socialized with children her age. We are also under the impression that she was not paid much attention to.
Throughout her two years in foster care, Kacey surpassed all expectations. After long roads, Kacey was potty-trained and speaking more clearly. She has been in several types of therapies, such as trauma counseling, speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc. She has made strides over her time with our family.
Kacey was adopted on December 29, 2025, through Washington County Children & Youth Services. She had been our family since the day she entered our home, but to have her share our last name has been a blessing.

Lilly’s story became part of ours the day we brought her home from Children’s Hospital after she completed a morphine taper due to drug exposure at birth. What started as foster care quickly became something much deeper, and we loved her as our own from the very first moment she entered our home. Watching her grow, heal, and thrive has been one of the greatest blessings of our lives.
The journey through foster care with Greene County CYS was not always easy. Over the course of more than two years, there were many emotional highs and lows, moments of uncertainty, and challenges that tested our patience and faith. Through every court date, every transition, and every difficult season, we remained committed to giving Lilly a safe, loving, and stable home where she would always know she was wanted and cherished.
Throughout it all, Lilly brought joy, laughter, and love into our family in ways we could never fully describe. She fit naturally into our lives from day one, and every milestone along the way only strengthened the bond we shared. While foster care began as a temporary placement, it became clear that she was meant to be part of our family forever.
In March of 2026, after two and a half emotional and rewarding years, we were finally blessed to officially adopt Lilly and call her a Higinbotham. That day was not just the end of a long journey, but the beginning of a new chapter together as a forever family. We are incredibly grateful for every step that led us here and thankful that Lilly will always know she is deeply loved, chosen, and home.
